The pattern is familiar. A business chooses a job management platform, everyone in the office is impressed, and the crews find it does not work where they are. It needs a signal to save a form. A tablet used on a site in a ute lives a hard life, and a protected or rugged device bought once costs less than a consumer one replaced repeatedly, before counting the day someone loses a week of photos and measurements with it. Screen visibility in daylight and usability with gloves or dirty hands are practical specifications rather than luxuries.
Security travels with the devices and is easy to neglect. Phones and tablets carrying job information, client details and site photos should be enrolled in device management so they can be located, locked and wiped, and that includes personal phones where business systems are accessed from them. In an industry with high turnover and devices that get lost, this is more valuable than in most sectors, and it takes very little to set up.
The honest caveats. Some sites will remain difficult regardless of what you buy, and pretending otherwise wastes money.
